BHP Billiton regrets to advise that an incident occurred at its Klipspruit Colliery operation in South Africa on Tuesday, 29 July, that resulted in the death of an employee.

Mr Petrus Sipho Kgobo, a drill groundsman, was fatally injured when a drill rig moved over a highwall and fell approximately 10 metres.

Petrus is survived by his two children, Naniki (18) and Fikile (14), and his wife Nhlanhla, who is expecting another child.

Investigations are being conducted by BHP Billiton and the relevant government authorities. Mining operations at Klipspruit Colliery have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
