BHP Billiton, together with Global Communities, is pleased to announce the completion of the first year of a US$28.6 million project to assist vulnerable and displaced persons in Colombia.
Named ANDA, a Spanish word meaning “moving forward”, the project will help communities advocate for resources with governments, improve the ability of local governments to access municipal, departmental and national resources and increase job opportunities and market driven livelihoods, such as small business enterprises.

Five Rivers Conservation Project
BHP Billiton, in partnership with the Tasmanian Land Conservancy and Conservation International, has launched the Five Rivers Conservation Project. BHP Billiton has pledged A$13.4 million for conservation and ongoing management of 11,000 hectares of land in Tasmania, Australia.
The land, near Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair, incorporates areas that are covered by the Tasmanian World Heritage area including old growth forests, wild rivers, and alpine wetlands.

Valdivian Coastal Reserve
BHP Billiton in alliance with Conservation International and The Nature Conservancy are working together to ensure the permanent conservation of 50,000 hectares of the Valdivian Coastal Reserve in the Los Rios region, Chile.
Sustainability is one of the core values contained in the Our BHP Billiton Charter. As part of the Company’s commitment to sustainable development in the regions where it operates it has committed to a conservation target. The conservation target will see BHP Billiton finance the conservation and ongoing management of areas of high biodiversity and ecosystem value that are of national or international conservation significance.

Since 1997, BHP Billiton has been an active partner of Arid Recovery, Australia’s premier arid zone conservation partnership. Other partners include the local community, the South Australian Department for Environment and Natural Resources and The University of Adelaide. Based at Roxby Downs, the program is a world-class conservation and research program that protects a range of native plants and animals in South Australia's arid zone.
