Cerro Matoso, located near the town of Montelíbano in northern Colombia, combines a lateritic nickel ore deposit with a low cost ferronickel smelter.
Cerro Matoso is the world's second largest producer of ferronickel and a nickel industry leader in unit cost of production.

Operations
The ferronickel smelter and refinery are integrated with an open-cut mine. The Beneficiation plant for the mine consists of a primary and secondary crusher, which is sent to a stacker for stockpiling and blending.
Process design capacity is 50,000 tonnes per year of nickel, in the form of ferronickel.

Cerro Matoso provides annual funding for three foundations that work in the areas of economic and social welfare, education, and health care.
These foundations engage in sustainable development covering social welfare, education, health and micro-economic development projects in Montelíbano and surrounding communities to generate employment on a sustainable basis.
