The Minerals Exploration group’s vision is to build a high value portfolio of growth options for BHP Billiton. This will be achieved by discovering new deposits, developing and expanding existing assets, and early acquisitions/alliances. These three areas complement one another, delivering a comprehensive exploration strategy that takes advantage of high-value opportunities.
Minerals Exploration has six major offices around the globe in Vancouver, Rio de Janeiro, Moscow, Beijing, Johannesburg and Perth. Our exploration projects and activities are coordinated from these regional offices. Functional and executive teams share office space with other business units in Singapore and Melbourne.
Working With Us
Because Minerals Exploration teams look for opportunities throughout the world, our business is one of the truly global enterprises within the BHP Billiton group. In addition to our regional offices located across the six major continents, our exploration geoscientists and support teams also perform reconnaissance and project work in countries within these regions where we have no offices.
International Travel
Mobility is a very important component of our work culture and, as such, international travel and regular periods of time spent away from home is an expectation in most employees’ role. Depending on your role, you may find yourself in various countries over the course of a year.

We use a risk based safety management system to ensure the safety of employees, contractors and the communities in which we operate. Minerals Exploration has been successful in achieving a good safety record and continually works to improve our safety culture.
